Citizens for Nigeria - The People Have The Power!

Brain Power

It is tragic to note that even under democratic rule, Nigerian university continue to be unfunded, unstable and unfocused. While universities staff continue to fight over salaries, instead of pushing the boundaries of development, here is what American university researchers are achieving - merging mind and machine through a brain-computer interface. When will our tertiary institutions begin to fulfil their expected roles?

Yar'Adua Plans to Exploit Boko Haram Crisis

Children in Maiduguri, Nigeria on July 28The religious violence resulting from the activities of the politically-connected Boko Haram organization is to be used by the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) to fight the opposition ANPP in the 2011 elections, intelligence reports have indicated.  The Nigerian armed forces’ strike against Boko Haram likely is a calculated move by the PDP to lay the groundwork to defeat the ANPP and deliver all Nigerian states to the PDP in the 2011 elections. Boko Haram has always been a political as well as a religious organization with close ties to powerful politicians. The political elite in north-eastern Nigeria attempted to use Boko Haram for militancy as in the Niger Delta. The ANPP likely uses Boko Haram in its own violent campaign tactics in emulation of Niger Delta politics, which means a crackdown on it is a crackdown on the ANPP, the PDP's strongest challenger in the rigged 2007 elections.

The Choreographed Dismissal of Nuhu Ribadu

The bold and insensitive dismissal of Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), by the Nigeria Police marks the end of pretention by the Umaru Yar'Adua administration and the beginning of reality and truth regarding what Nigeria is about to become. This president is neither a pathfinder nor a savior, but a protector of the ugly past. It is time for well-meaning Nigerians to wake up from an 18-month slumber to do whatever it would take to crush the stumps of the past before it regrows.

Tougher times, ahead, says Fawehinmi

"WE need a very strong President in our country. We need a man who will do what is right for the nation as an entity and for the people. We need a man who will put programmes and policies that will lift the ordinary man from the doldrums of poverty to happiness. We need a man who will stand against all forms of social injustices; the most paramount is corruption." A few of the powerful new year statements from Gani Fawehinmi about the kind of nation Nigeria should be.

What Obama's Victory Means

We join all the citizens of the world to congratulate America in the choice of Mr. Barrack Obama as the 44th President. It is a milestone, but for all well-meaning people, a brave political choice, which shows why the United States is such a great nation. The Citizens for Nigeria (CFN) looks back at the re-election of President George W. Bush in 2004, and wonders how America made such a sharp turn in so few years. When President Bush won his re-election, the Daily Mirror of London had on it's front page on November 4, 2004, a story titled: "How Can 59 Million People Be So Dumb?" Today, that assertion has no hold. In the face of truth and glory, and a moment of history, America chose wisely in the election of her first President of African descent, and the first leader of the minority groupings.
