Where is Mr. President?

CFN Writes President Obama on Terrorism Classification

"A vast majority of Nigerians have this strong faith and abiding confidence in the goodness, uprightness and strength of America. That faith is now being questioned, unrewarded and seemingly betrayed by the lumping of Nigeria with rogue nations, most of which have actively supported terrorism.  This is an unfair decision, an over-reaction and a disproportionate punishment for the bad act of one man in a nation of 140 million people.  "

Warning: Beware of Millitary Intervention

Nigeria is on the brink of constitutional crisis with its ailing president not transferring powers to his deputy and political king makers feuding over his succession,  former U.S. envoy has warned. "Yar'Adua's removal from office would result in a political and constitutional crisis for the United States' most important strategic partner in Africa and one of its largest suppliers of oil," former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria John Campbell said.

"If the current crisis spins out of control, the Nigerian military is likely to intervene, possibly with a nominal civilian head," said Campbell, who was U.S. ambassador to Nigeria from 2004 to 2007. "Nigeria's military, though much weakened, continues to regard itself as the ultimate custodian of the state."

President Umaru Yar'Adua has been absent from Africa's most populous nation for more than a month receiving treatment for a heart condition in Saudi Arabia, but there have been no official updates on his health for weeks.

New Full Screening for Nigerian Travellers in USA

Nigerians travelling to the United States must now expect harder times, as the US government has added Nigeria to the list of countries whose passengers must be given special inspection on arrival at any American airport. All passengers from countries on the State Department’s “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list – plus all passengers from other "countries of interest" such as Nigeria, Pakistan and Yemen — will receive “full body pat-down and physical inspection of property,” an official was quoted.

The more stringent Transportation Security Administration rules, to take effect at midnight, follow the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner by a privileged Nigerian kid, Farouk Mutallab,  headed into Detroit from Amsterdam.

Meet the Mutallabs

The Detroit bomber, Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab, is the son of Umaru Mutallab, until recent, the First Bank chairman. Farouk was born into a wealthy and influential family. Mutallab was Federal Commissioner of Economic Development (1975) and also of Cooperation and Supply (1976). He played a major role in introducing Islamic banking into Nigeria, becoming the Chairman of Nigeria's first Islamic bank, Jaiz International Plc. Mr. Mutallab is also the Financial Advisory Committee Chairman of the Katsina Islamic Foundation.
